Opening Night of New Work in “Return to the Garden” at the Marigold

Friday evening April 11 was the official opening of my New Work in “Return to the Garden” series at the Marigold Cultural Centre, MacLellan Moffat Financial Art Gallery.

It was an exciting evening with a large crowd of family, friends, neighbors, NSCC colleagues, fellow Artists and former Students.

We also had community guests who dropped in from the sold out David Myles performance in the Marigold theatre.

I felt very overwhelmed and encouraged  by the incredible community support and positive feedback I received about my new work.

It was especially touching to have my former Students travel to attend the opening. It was wonderful to see Adam King and Luke Conrad from Cartoon Conrad Studio as it was Rebecca MacInnes from Copernicus Animation Studio in Halifax.

Rebecca studied in my Summer Animation Camps and years later graduated from the Digital Animation Program.

During my gallery welcome, I spoke about the Sienna and Leif Labelle Memorial Scholarship and the new promotion and fund-raising campaign we are launching with the NSCC Foundation.

Many  Artists from our community attended the opening from a variety of artistic disciplines; a reflection of our growing and vibrant arts community.

The exhibition is on display until the end of April. I intend to host an Artist Talk with high school students who visited my studio back in October 2013.

We have received great coverage in the Truro Daily News and the Halifax Chronicle Herald for which I am very grateful.

peterlabelle.com launched April 11 and I would to thank Michael MacMillian for his patience and support in helping us meet this goal.

Aprill 11th is my partner’s Charmaine’s birthday and I really appreciate her sharing her birthday evening celebration with the exhibit opening. Thank you Charmaine.

My son Keifer said he enjoyed the opening and Saren and Shawnacey sent their well wishes from Acadia and Memorial Universities.

I am now officially on Facebook and we posted more photos of the opening there – check it out if you have the chance.  A photo credit goes to Paul Mansfield; Paul thank you for taking pictures for the exhibit opening.

Thank you again to Melanie, Summer, Bruce and Al at the Marigold Cultural Centre and to the gallery sponsors MacLellan Moffat Financial.

If you attended the opening, thank you for joining us and please feel free to return to see the work a second time at your leisure. If you want to see sketches of the paintings that are in the exhibition, check out the Work Books, Selected New Work section on peterlabelle.com

NSCC Digital Animation Students visit New Work in “Return to the Garden”

Yesterday I had the privilege to taking my first year and second year Digital Animation Life Drawing class  to visit my New Work in the “Return to the Garden” Exhibition.

The Students had previously visited my studio in December 2013 and had seen some of the works complete, in progress and in sketch form.

Working with these Students is always an exciting and energizing experience. Their honesty, sense of hope for the future and love of drawing inspires me every day.

On our walk to the Marigold we also stopped into Nuri Guerra’s Visual Voice Gallery to see Judy Arsenault’s “Wild Wood” Exhibition. It was an excellent experience for the students to get to see another Nova Scotian artist working in encaustic.

Installing New Work in the “Return to the Garden” at the Marigold Cultural Centre Gallery

Charmaine and I hung my new paintings in the “Return to the Garden” in the Marigold Cultural Centre Gallery on Tuesday, April 1st.

The Marigold is just around the corner from our home, so I wrappped up each painting and carried them there on foot. It was a snowy and blustery ice rain day but I managed to get all of the pieces there safe and sound.

We hung the show according to the plan I had drawn out in my sketch book several months ago and everything fit in perfectly.

I think the paintings look very vibrant in the gallery, energizing the entire space.

The opening is this Friday, April 11th and I am excited to share my work and get feed back on how people respond to seeing it.
